Consumer Insights was created by John Howard to provide help and advice on regulation in the financial, energy and water sectors. He is a former TV and Radio Presenter best known as BBC Radio 4's Consumer Champion presenting the daily You and Yours programme for almost 20 years. He subsequently became a Non-executive Director of Ofgem, the Gas and Electricity Regulator, and he is a past Chairman of the Financial Services Consumer Panel. For 11 years he was on the Board of National Counties Building Society and the Family Building Society .
He was one of four directors of the Banking Competition Remedies Company set up by HM Treasury to distribute £775 million to challenger banks. He was also Chair of the Customer Engagement Group of Scottish Power.
John has been an advisor to Lloyds Banking Group sitting on both its With Profits Committee and its Independent Governance Committee. He was previously a non-executive Director of the Financial Ombudsman Service.
A qualified solicitor, John is now seen as a leading authority on Principles Based Regulation, 'Treating Customers Fairly' and the Consumer Duty, providing advice on all consumer matters.
He is a past Trustee of the Thalidomide Trust.
He was appointed by HM Treasury to be a Commissioner of the Independent Commission on Equitable Life Payments.
John is a commentator on financial services and energy, writing in The Times (see Publications and Articles) chairing conferences and speaking at seminars and other events.
